Alberta Swiss Crossbow Association - Calgary |

Club HistoryThe seed was planted in 1981 at a shooting completion in Vancouver where several Calgary shooters participated, and were introduced to crossbow shooting. After making contact with some people in Switzerland who were in the Crossbow know-how, we started the Alberta Swiss Crossbow Assn. Because we were already affiliated with the Alberta Provincial Rifle Assn, through the Rifle Club Tell, they were able to allocate a part of land that APRA is leasing from the City of Calgary and we started building our shooting house. The roomy building can also be used to shoot indoor air rifle as well as 10 m crossbow. The 30 m firing points are indoors and the target stands are out doors. September 23rd 1984 was the official opening. The presence of Calgary’s Mayor Ralph Klein, many dignitaries from Switzerland, the local Swiss Yodelers and many more helped us celebrate. The 380V 3 phase 50 Hz automatic target pulls from Switzerland presented some technical challenges to be able to operate them from our 110 V 1 ph power supply. Over the years we have added two more automatic targets and a target lighting system. The building is often used for meetings, social functions by the Rifle Club Tell and of course the Crossbowers, and was even used by the RCMP for instructional purpose. Our 10-year anniversary was celebrated with an international shooting competition. Hundreds of shooters from Switzerland and shooters from Vancouver and Sao Paulo participated winning a medal depicting a bucking bronc from the Calgary Stampede We are members of the APRA www.albertarifle.com Ebenfalls Mitglieder im Eidg.Armbrustschuetzenverband www.EASV.ch |
